There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gambling is not legal. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the common tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel complex that contains numerous conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
