There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gambling is illegal. Eight casinos are based in a generally small space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 table games. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that contains a number of comforts accompanying the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
